Week One Recap
Andrew Binni Records 100th Varsity Victory!
While competing at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman Tournament, Binni was able to collect his 100th victory to become the 47th wrestler in our storied history to add his name to the “100 Win Club”. He secured this en-route to collecting 8th place at the tournament. He was the only CM wrestler of the six boys that traveled to the tournament to receive a seed. Others that competed but were unable to secure a spot on the podium were Collier Hartman, Vincent Binni, Rocco Didiano, Nick Casella, and Daisean Lacks.
Women of Ironman
After the boys wrapped up, the girls took the the mats at Walsh Jesuit for the Women of Ironman tournament. Competing were Natalia Clem, Capri Chambers, Malia Ramos, Sienna Van Balen, Yunuen Ayala, Bailey Emery, Leilani Ramos, Milly Williams, Eva Gray, Dynisty Williams, Paige Ward, and Natalie Rush. The girls had an all around great showing. Natalie took the highest honors with 3rd place. The girls will look to ramp up from an 8th place tournament into the first PIAA sanctioned year looking to defend their state championship.
JV and Middle School Tournaments
While the boys and girls varsity teams travelled out to Walsh Jesuit, the JV squad took their talents to the Butler Doc Phillips JV Tournament and the Middle School squad squared off at the Joe Iagnemma South Fayette JH Tournament. On the podium at the Doc Phillips were Brayden Collins in 2nd, Jack Hunter in 3rd, Gino Juliani and Skyler Badas in 4th. The Middle School team was able to take 2nd overall. Mason Calgaro was named the tournament outstanding wrestler on his way to first place. Joining him as champions were Austin Smith, Bryce Collins, Dakota Carmona, Gionno Gardner, and Owen Rush. Also making the finals and falling just short to second place were Lee Dreshman and Caleb Anderson. Other place winners were Levi Singleton in 3rd, Aidan Finnigan in 4th, Merrick Sarles in 5 and Gavin Hamm in 6th.
First Dual of the Season
The boys and middle school teams traveled to Waynesburg for their first dual of the season while the girls traveled to Connellsville. All teams were able to secure team victories on the night. The girls 60 - 12 victory was highlighted by falls from Capri Chambers, Bailey Emery, Milly Williams, Eva Gray, Dynisty Williams, and Audrey Calgaro. The boys secured a 46 - 29 defense of the WPIAL Championship dual. They leveled the win with falls by Tanner Mizenko, Collier Harman, Andrew Binni, and Josiah Gardner and a major decision by Brayden Collins. The middle school team was able shutout Waynesburg with all falls or forfeits for a 90 - 0 score.
UP Next
Highlighting what’s next for the Big Macs includes trips for the boys, JV and girls teams to Central Mountain School District for the King, Man and Queen of the Mountain tournaments. After we find the results of the tournaments, we can look forward to the first full joint dual of the season when the middle school , girls, and boys teams will all travel to Upper St. Clair. Let’s make it feel like a home match for all the kids and get over to USC to make some noise!
